Angus MacKinnon

Angus MacKinnon was born in 1991. He was raised in Johannesburg and obtained a BA in Fine Art from Michaelis School of Art at the University of Cape Town. He is now based in Glasgow.

His images focus on the complexities of contemporary life – the weight of its past, the diverse realities of the present and the schizophrenic nature of the future. Key themes central to his practice include mobility, the environment and labour in connection with the human condition.

He has exhibited widely within South Africa, as well as abroad in places such as Bamako, Addis Ababa, Paris, Athens and Amsterdam. In 2014 he participated in the Nigerian based Invisible Borders photography residency and in 2015 he was selected as one of nine “Young Talented Artists” for the Fresh Produce Exhibition and mentorship programme at the Turbine Art Fair. He was also selected for The Market Photo Workshop’s Photography Incubator Programme in Johannesburg. He has produced work all over the world and his work is included in a number of private and corporate collections.
